It is exciting to start to read philosophers posts and blogs giving us some grounding on the topic, I finished studies in political philosophy 1977! Kant and Nichee and Marx were brushed over back then. And he didn’t bring in Ayn Rand, the spoiled Russian that wanted to drop the stragglers and leave them to the wolves and bears. There are underlying assumptions in her thinking that are evil, in my opinion.
At a time when I heard we have the largest percentage of citizens self-identified as religious ever? I missed the details but America is very religious: Chrisitan, born-again and Catholics. I have struggled my adult life going back and forth being a douting Thomas, reading Many Hall, the real anomalies, unexplained structures, precision better than today. I don’t know but information that would never be seen and the last century’s physics and cosmology make it hard to take formal Church religion. There is something comforting about rituals that benefits those that go to church but the men that run them are not always the best examples humans. If you look at the small atom nucleous and then Hubble pictures of millions of galaxies it seems illogical. And when God was done he rested and then came to this one planet and gave humans all kinds of grief and suffuring, got mad like a human. Created a flood to wipe humans out but let one guy build an small boat to hold all the living species in the world. Sounds more like an embellishment of a flood that killed a lot of people but some survived. Back to Sumerians and the Gnostics and the other Teastments. Thomas and Mary, Enoch? So what is God? Is there a judgement? Is there a resurection? Died for our sins. I never understood that either. What sins. of gaining reason? And yes we expect to concour dealth. These were men after power and wealth. After all that, there is still mystery in the world so we don’t know, but my god is not the God of the Church. It is not a man or human, he didn’t talk to men.
But there is something worthwhile to believe in a superior force that is running the show.He set things in motion and life took over. With the dramatic description in Thomas and the first details of the Nephilim and the Watchers. And all these minor gods representing some primal force. Once you have read all the history of myths and beliefs of different cultures around the world, you start to realize that this exclusivtivity is worse than Nationalism; splitting the world. Then your have the Muslims, Jews and Christians all starting with the same book of wisdom supposedly from God above. I find it more believable that those stories were about aliens or advanced humans. One fact or statistic always shakes me up. The dianasoars ruled the earth for 100 to 250 MILLION years. That is incomprehensible. How far did they evolve over that time? You would think that that many generations would change them drastically for the better. But size might have been the single advantage they needed to dominate. I am not a biologist but I did learn how to simulate evolution or genetic algorithms. Selections, mutattion and recreation, copulation, combination. Some have argued that very simple rules can result in complex outcomes. I personally think that evolution is not survival of the fitest but the die off of the worse. It is survival. You don’t have to run faster than the bear, just faster than the slowest one in your group. So perfection is crap.
The eye is one example. Pressure in the eye for a very long time will damage the optic nerve which carries the light signals from the retina and carries them to the brain. There is not alternative. No backup to surgical repair. You go blind slowly. That is n. Engineers call that a single point of failure and design failover systems and processes. Especially for something as critical as sight. Maybe in 100 million years that will happen. The other big example of our evolutionary history is our violent nature. We are about as agressive a creature in the world. Yet we have a brain that can reason out the bad choice war is. So our animal insincts still control us. Not everyone. That is what religion might have been. Teaching how to rise above the unimportant, that others cannot make us do this or that or feel bad or good. That is all within your control. When you reflect on your actions every day looking for treating others badly or any list of bad behavior you start to release control of the EGO self-will, rational mind. What happens? Life happens. If the top physists are correct, every atom 10^125 or a bigggg number is entangled at quantom level thus the unimaginable variables that impact any given out come. If you can let go of the outcome and just do what is right you stop trying the impossible. We need to stop listening to the Churchs and worst examples of Christ in society.
Every thing has boundaries that represent their energy field. I know a lot of people that love to tell others what to do. Maybe they are teachers but it is the ones that are always there to “help” and they see nothing wrong with interfering with someone elses life because they think they know better than God. I think you have to be careful not to break the natural spirit of animals including humans. They need to trust themselves and if someone is always telling them what to do the spirit can be killed in extreme cases. Emit Fox discusses this. So don’t blindly follow authorities. They are as likely or more to be wrong with the wrong intentions.
