Next Postby Vampire2020 Scary assessment of the US power grid cybersecurity. The lack of standards, regulations on security requirements ignore this National Security matter. I would have rather seen AT&T invest in this utility rather than media content. That, I speculate will turn out to be disappointing due to corporate culture miss-fit. AT&T has the experience in building the new SDN’s for data where the control layer is separated from the transport hardware. Much, much more flexible for rapid change. AT&T has the engineering knowhow and decades of keeping systems running at 5 nines. In fact, the Cloud model of designing environments for applications to run in IT has used the Power Utility as a model of the Cloud being able to spin up services as demand rises and vice versa. This is where America is dropping the ball. No plan for the Global socioeconomic and environmental shifts in the works. All due to a religious belief in the magic of free markets and electing incompetent statesmen and stateswomen. The fact is, no one is providing national and global direction for the most sweeping changes that are rushing at us. All we are getting from leaders is, take the money and then buy a politician. I don’t think Adam Smith covered what happens when, rather than reinvesting profits that provide jobs, like the stories taught in grade school, coporations and wealthy individuals buy power in DC to help them increase profits and over-reward their executives’ performance. Other countries are taking the lead. One can hope that the leaders find all the traps and we wake up and take advantage of those that have gone before.
