Steven Harper, a retired lawyer, author and law professor at Northwestern, expresses my feelings, beliefs and fears of the illegitimate Trump presidency and the future of our democracy(close to failure). All of this was clear early in the campaign and why I was shocked at educated people even considering voting for him. For a while, I thought he rigged the election with Russian help but the more I discovered family and friends voting for him the more angry I became. And to a person, his supporters got their information from Fox News, a propaganda machine for the ultra right — well beyond the GOP to a nationalistic, faschist party. It is a shame that most people do not realize all the changes that have happened the last 40 years,subtle changes that go unnoticed. I read the JSJ everyday for 20 years but then they became an opinion source and it left the Economist and NYT.
