The discussion around Bush’s tax rebate proposal is hard to believe. I haven’t been able to find much concern about how we will pay for this. There seems to be no responsible parties in government, business or media. Let’s just give ourselves more money so we don’t have to tighten our belts. Print it! Borrow it from China, India and Japan. When in trouble from spending too much and borrowing too much- borrow and spend more!

It is no wonder the young people I speak too are so negative about this country’s economic future. We have irresponsible leaders. We have already created record-breaking deficits and are running an endless war that has cost us about 460 BILLION dollars with no end in sight.

What is so depressing is the total lack of concern expressed by anyone in a position to do something. There is going to be a price to pay and one is going to be the rest of the world rising above the US due to their more responsible fiscal policies.

  1. I have finally seen some discussion about the wisdom of the fiscal and monetary actions being taken by the government. While there is a weak voice saying that this is kind of what got us into trouble the first time, the fear of a “recession” seems to be so overwhelming to those in power, the risk is worth it. It seems odd that those in power would be so concerned with a recession if by that we mean fewer jobs and more unemployment, lower pay. So one has to think that by recession, they mean the value of their assets going down, e.g., stock market and property.
