Newsweek

I only subscribe to one news magazine and that is Newsweek. It is usually interesting enough and not ultra conservative so I have had little to complain about. Until today!

How much Power should they Have? read like a press release from the White House that had been vetted by the NSA! What a waste of space! After reading it, you would think that Bush and Channey were just poor victims of a hysterical outlash of un patriotic bureaucrats. The whole article made excuses for sacrafcing our freedoms to protect our …. freedoms? Doublespeak? Oh, the world is going to destroy us!!! Oh, I am so afraid!! Let’s become a police state so our people can be safe!!???? The article was bad enough but then I went to their web site, duh, part of MSNBC, Corporate American…explains much. The Live talk segment on the topic was even more whitewash. This country has developed a bad case of xenophbia. We seem to think anything is worth giving up as long as we are safe. Safe to destroy the planet, use up all the resources, polute the air, bomb whomever we feel like, ignore international laws and basically behave like a spoiled little kid.

I lived in London when the IRA was bombing the Underground and Harrods. People didn’t run and hide. They didn’t call for people to be spied on, arrested, tortured and law to be usurped in the name of stopping the bombings.

What is the point of giving up all your freedoms to protect what? Your SUV? Your big house?

Live Talk Transcript: Too Much Power?

So I was very disappointed in the article in Newsweek. It was not thoughtful. It was a whitewash. If it weren’t for Fareed Zakaria and Anna Quindlen you might as well stop publishing the magazine. No wonder it has become so thin.
