Phone Cameras keep getting better
Cameras have been part of mobile phones even before the iPhone. So-called feature phones had cameras and I use to get the phone with best camera. Then iPhone came along and it was the apps that took the attention. When Apple announced the 7 and 7plus, most people talked about the lack of a headphone jack?? I though, why would that me important. Complaints that people would have to buy a converter or they will lose the earbuds as the wireless head phones are called. It seemed people were missing a big upgrade.
The compact camera killer
The 7 plus two cameras lenses could take the place of needing a point and shoot even more than has happened. I have been comparing a pretty old Panasonic DMC ZS10, my iPhone 6 and a Pentax K-30 . The panasonic takes really nice close up pictures. I have the kit 18-50mm lens on the Pentax and it is more likely the user than the camera but it isn’t as good as the panasonic. You need to spend $500 up to get decent glass on the DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. Now the 7 has a 60mm which is a lens most used for portrat work and a 24mm, I think, that does landscapes or close ups well. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the Olympus MD E with 14-42mm kit lens for $400. It is the older model but was a runner up in the dpreview. The street shooter without the view finder Pen 7 with the same lens is the same price. I like the old fashion look of the OM-D. They are smaller than they look. Like my old Minolta film SLR.
