Should the Authorities Be Able to Access Your iPhone? – The New York Times:

In this specific case I am on Apple’s side.  If they create a backdoor for the US, a shining beacon of Democracy and freedom, you can bet that every other country will ask Apple to do the same thing for them.  Think of China.  Once a few versions are out their, the bad guys will have it too.

But regarding the government having the right to your private data, I am against that in principle and I guess that makes me libertarian.  Shouldn’t some things always be private?  Even for bad guys?  It seems ages ago this terrorist attack took place and they 2 bad guys are dead.  Does the FBI really need what is on that phone?  Probably not. It would be nice to have but not critical to our safety.  I would rather risk our protectors not having some information than give up more freedom.
