Part 2. The inappropriate treatment of Hillary and Donald as equals.
So the public discourse in the media should be what kind of president will Hillary be and what will she be able to do if the Pulicans keep congress — probably more than Obama because she is meaner and a better politician. She will go along with the continued drift to the right in economic theory, theories that have been proven wrong year after year since Reagan. But they have made wall street rich and powerful and Hillary will let them continue to do that. She may even create another asset bubble that makes the angry people feel better for a while. But addressing the true problems of the country and world she will run into republican resistance unless Democrats can take back the legislative branch. If repubs keep control, they will continue to move away from science and facts and openly start taking more and more from the middle class before somebody wakes up. The people that actually like Trump and think the world is a TV show and bad things never happen in America will not defend their support of Trump, but will attack Hillary as if she is worse than Trump.
Many people can’t understand what a Trump as president would be. They hear only what they want to hear. Bigots, racists, discontented have a politician that talks like their heroes like Rush Limburger or Hanity. All the people I know that are angry almost always are mad because they feel someone is getting away with something. They love someone that blames others for their problems, Blacks, faggots, gays, immigrants and Democrats. They have no idea how Hitler or Stalin or any other dictator or strong man got to their positions. They maybe don’t even know what happened in the first part of the last century. They talk about freedom and the military keeping us free but they don’t know that democracy only works with a well informed citizenry which in turn depends on a strong and independent Press that helps them understand things. The signs are clear we no longer have either of these cornerstones to a working democracy so there is some chance of us losing it all. And the people that go along uninformed but confident in their righteousness will be the ones spying and telling on the rest of us under a oppressive government. I can still see or remember the stories of children turning in their parents in Germany or neighbors that turn aside as the family next door is hacked to death in Rwanda.
It is time for all reasonable people to agree Donald Trump as President would put the world in a much more dangerous condition.
Maybe the people you see at the gun shows and counters in stores are not buying the assault rifles to defend themselves but to take the offensive when Trump turns them lose. You my laugh and think this is 2016, that kind of thing happened before. It can’t happen today. How long was it when the Bosnians committed genocide. Rwanda happened in 1990, starting as a civil war. Darfur was in 2003. Humans have barely evolved their emotional intelligence. It is why democracy and rule of law helps prevent raw emotions to rule behavior. It is why politics is about compromise and trying not to make enemies. But you only need the right kind of leader to break down the rules and let out the bad wolf in all of us. Why do you think Obama and every president always tries to unite America as one tribe. It is one of their main jobs. Keep the country and its people together. Trump is the first candidate to do the opposite. Maybe if we lived at the time of our Civil War we would be acting much differently. I think the point I am trying to make is we need to stop treating Trump as if he is just another Republican. He is not.
Certainly, there are real grievances and problems that both populist candidates identified. These have been a long time coming. For years now I keep waiting for riots in the cities in protest to the injustice built into our systems. But about the only thing that changed was gender neutral bathrooms. Get the grease gun out, we’re about to get f$%ked. Families figured things would get better and in the meantime, borrow against the house and get more credit cards. I have been saying for 10 years that things can and probably will get worse. There is nothing being done to make things better. But Trump is going to make America Great again? What is Great. Why are we no longer great? When were we Great?
Is it the start of the 20th century when the book The Jungle described the Stockyards in Chicago. No, I am guessing they mean the 50’s and 60’s until the hippie movement started and we didn’t win in Vietnam. Or maybe they mean the 80’s and Reagan. I would speculate that is was the post WW era when Europe and Japan were weak after two WW and America took advantage of it. Unions managed to keep wages and benefits at a level where you could come out of Hight School knowing nothing and get a labor job that paid enough to being able to afford a nice house, car, only one breadwinner was needed and you could even have a summer cottage and a boat if that was your thing. Do people honestly think they can bring that back buy raising the minimum wage or building a wall or threatening China or Russia? Let’s see.
