I remember returning to the US after working and living abroad for 3 years. The one thing that I noticed above all else was the consumer culture driven by PR and ads. Fox News is the most popular “news” channel and it is 80% opinion not factual news. MSNBC is worse. You cannot convince me that this doesn’t affect people and the way they think. Advertising works and we the people are the ones being manipulated. That has a great deal to do with the hateful mood of the country. Liberals hate conservatives and conservatives hate liberals and there is plenty of news items to support your feelings.
When I read that someone is not influenced by talk radio or TV news channels I say that is impossible. If you haven’t seen Trump handle protesters you have no idea what the stink is about. But, in the same vane, if you see negative posts, videos, reports about someone or some action, you will be emotionally impacted.
